This is the first picture I ever took with my new Canon S500 digital camera (thanks for the push, Amy!). Yes, it's point-and-shoot, but it's a damn fine point-and-shoot. 5MP, can record movies, etc. A great review of the camera is here. Thus far, the camera controls been super-intuitive as well as the desktop software. Time permitting, I might actually make it to page one of the manual this weekend.
My Canon Elan 7E and Canon Elph 2 kept me content for quite some time. With hundreds if not thousands of dollars spent on photo-processing however, it was simply time to get into the digital age. I resisted at first, tempted by the allure of dark rooms and photo processing chemical highs. 99% of those prints sit on a shelf collecting dust or in a box and decomposing.
4 and 5MP (and up) cameras these days can print gorgeous 4x6 (at least 13x19" at full resolution on the S500) photos for the everday photographer or photo enthusiast. One day, I'll no doubt go for a digital SLR (again from Canon), but my thirst for digital has now been slaked.
Once again, Canon has developed a kick-ass product! I'll be adding photos to my gallery over time.
